I have Python 3.6.1 and PySerial Installed. I am trying the I am able to get the list of comports connected. I now want to be able to send data to the COM port and receive responses back.

Connect the CH340 to your computer's USB port. Click on somewhere else on the screen for the menu to refresh itself. Then head back to the menu by clicking on Tools Port. A new COM port should pop up. By process of elimination, the CH340 should have enumerated to the new COM port! To install serial ports and COM ports using these system-supplied components, do the following: Provide an INF file that specifies the Ports device setup class and the Serial function driver as the service for the port. To configure a serial port as COM port, comply with the requirements that are defined in Configuration of COM Ports. This could be a result of a hardware problem (either in the logger or the PC serial port or the port driver). It could be caused by power supply or grounding problems on the datalogger. It could also be an issue of how port is configured on the datalogger. It is possible for the datalogger RS232 port to be configured at a fixed baud rate other than 115200. If that is the case, the results would match yours exactly.

I have also seen cases where the datalogger is set up for auto-baud detection (which is the default for the RS232 port) and has been set up at 9600 baud and, if the PC attempts to communicate at 115200 baud, the datalogger fails to detect the serial framing error (a serial frame sent at 115200 baud will fit pretty much inside the time occupied by one bit at 9600 baud).

The device configuration utility, under its 'Unknown' device type, has an 'Identify Logger Type' button. This button will attempt to identify the device type and/or protocol used for the datalogger and will attempt to do so at various baud rates. If the datalogger is synched to a different baud rate or is set up at a fixed baud rate, this feature may well give you the means of determining what baud rate should be used for successful communication.

As a last resort, assuming that there is not a hardware or power supply issue, you could also reflash the OS into the datalogger. By doing so, however, all settings, data, and programming will be wiped out.

Connection to com1 Windows 10, com3 could not be opened – This problem can sometimes occur if you do not have the required drivers. To solve the problem, you must update the serial port driver and verify that it solves your problem.
Putty cannot open Windows 10 serial port – Sometimes this problem can occur due to some Windows services. This is not a big problem, and you can solve it by disabling these services.
Access to the serial interface com1 cannot be opened – This problem may occur due to problems with the serial interface. To solve the problem, temporarily disable the serial port and see if it helps.
Com port cannot be opened win error code 5, 123, 32 – These are some common problems that can occur with a serial port, but you should be able to solve most of them with one of our solutions.

Windows may try to assign it to a COM port already in use. It seems that Windows sometimes gets an inconsistency in the registry of what has already been assigned.

To see if this is the problem (and if possible solve it), try changing the assigned COM port.

Go to Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT) > mbed Serial Port, then right-click and select Properties.
Select the Port Settings tab and click Advanced.
Under “COM port number”, try to select a different COM port.

Note that Windows marks some of them as (in use), but does not consider them exhaustive, for the same reason that this problem may exist!

Try switching it to a few different unused COM ports and see if it has an effect. If not, we will dive deeper to see what Windows is reporting.

And don’t forget to unplug the power cord after the change to recharge the driver and see all the results.

Try using another cable.

I noticed that using an older USB cable sometimes leads to a poor connection of the card. It would be moody if it worked sometimes and not differently. The problem was solved with a new or even different cable.

Hyperterminal

If you enter “Hyperterminal” in the Windows Start menu, right-click after the call and select “Run as administrator”. It should help you access the serial port.

Also check which COM port it uses. To do this, follow these steps:

1. press the window+R button

2. type devmgmt.msc

3. go to ports

Now check which port is assigned to the USE serial converter and use it in the spatula.
